About the competition

What is Mobile App Award 2012?

It’s a mobile app event of the year, whereby all developers in Egypt are invited to submit their mobile applications. The best 10 Egyptian mobile apps submitted by an established company and individual is chosen to compete in the global Mobile Awards - part of the Global Mobile Congress in Barcelona, February 2013.

Who can participate?

The competition will target entrepreneurs and mobile app developers both individuals and companies.

  1. Recognition: recognizing successful Egyptian entrepreneurs/ developers in the mobile industry.
  2. Motivation: Friction with global entrepreneurs / developers will motivate Egyptian entrepreneurs and developers to refine their mobile app products giving them a greater opportunity at competing globally with their products.


1. m-Health

This award is open to all Organizations in the m-Health ecosystem that provide mobile services, solutions, applications and initiatives.

2. m-Education

Entry is open to all Organizations in the m-Education eco-system that provide wireless connectivity based services, applications, solutions and initiatives. Eligible entrants include:

  • m-Education solution content providers
  • Academic and training institutions
  • NGOs
  • Application & Software Developers
3. m-Safeguard

Entry is open to all suppliers of technology aimed at safeguarding the customer and protecting the operator from fraud. The technology should be applicable to services offered on the GSM family of technologies Entry is open to:

  • Mobile Operators supplying security solutions to their customers
  • Suppliers of technologies in the GSM Mobile environment aimed at safeguarding customers and operators
  • Manufacturers and Vendors
  • Software developers and service providers
  • Innovators in the mobile industry
4. Green Mobile

This award is open to all Organizations that either serve the mobile industry around the world, including mobile service/ network providers in the mobile eco-system or those outside the industry that demonstrate use of the mobile platform as an integral part of their eco-friendly networks, policies, programs and initiatives.

5. m-Money

Entry is open to all players in the ‘mobile money’ eco-system as below, and all participating organizations that are developing a wide range of advanced mobile commerce, payment & financial services on the mobile platform. Entry is open to:

  • Mobile Network Operators
  • Banking Organizations and Credit/Debit Solutions Organizations
  • Retail and other Commercial Organizations
  • Transport & ticketing operators & solutions providers/ Financial Application Developers
  • Mobile Device and Point of Sale/Terminal Manufacturers
  • Entries that have been developed as a result of partnerships between Operators & financial institutions are welcomed as joint entries.
6. m-Advertising

The category is open to advertising or marketing agencies, mobile operators and brand owners, content aggregators, and traditional media outlets that have deployed effective mobile marketing or advertising campaigns. Joint entries from brand owners/ advertising agencies/mobile operators are welcome.

7. m- Publishing

This award is open to digital publishing and media organizations, academic institutions, app developers, and content owners/providers that provide digital media and information for mobile devices & tablets.

8. m- Women

The m-Women award is open to any individual or organization operating in the mobile industry.

9. Emergency/Humanitarian Situations

This category is open to:

  • Mobile network operators
  • Application Developers
  • Relief Agencies, NGOs, foundations, private organizations or Charities
  • Emergency service organizations, Governments or local authorities
10. m-Tourism

Eligible entrants include:

  • m-Education solution content providers
  • Academic and training institutions
  • NGOs
  • Application & Software Developers
11. m-Culture

Entry is open to all Organizations in the m-Education eco-system that provide wireless connectivity based services, applications, solutions and initiatives. Eligible entrants include:

  • m-Education solution content providers
  • Academic and training institutions
  • NGOs
  • Application & Software Developers
12. Games

Eligible entrants include:

  • NGOs
  • Application & Software Developers

General rules


Egypt Innovate: Mobile Award


All network products, services, solutions, initiatives etc entered must be supportive of, or be deployed over/accessible through mobile networks.

All products or services submitted for the EIMA must have been commercially available in at least one market or territory ahead of the awards deadline of Monday 1st November 2012.


The ‘Rules of Entry’ as defined here for the EIMA 2012 (“Rules”) incorporate the Awards General Terms & Conditions. You agree to be bound by the Rules and Terms by submitting an entry for the Awards.


The final closing date for entries to the EIMA is Monday 1st November 2012.


Entries will only be accepted when submitted in both Arabic and English language.


Following electronic confirmation of receipt of the entry form by the EIMA , you will be emailed with an Entry Reference Number.

Multiple Entries

There is no maximum number of entries permitted from a single organization. You can submit as many different entries to as many categories as you would like.

Documentary video

Additional to each Entry Form Questions a video is needed:

    The submission of video to support your entry/entries is very positively encouraged – and underlined by our awards judges! You may provide one URL to a video link demonstrating your entry. This should be either privately or publicly posted to YouTube (if a private post, please provide a user name and password for judges to access). The video should be between 3 and 5 minutes in length, but no more.

    By submitting any materials, you grant the EIMA permission to utilize them in promotions and other activities relating to the EIMA, post the event.

Judging Process
  1. Novelty of application, algorithm or architecture (the newness of application / development effort).
  2. Value (How the project outcome is valuable and suitable for the needs of the intended customer).
  3. Degree of Impact (The level of impact the product has on the broad society).
  4. Practicability (Ease of implementing and commercializing the idea without other dependencies).
  5. Methodology (Architecture, low level design, algorithms, and technologies used).
  6. Usability/ testing technique (activities made to guarantee the quality and Ease of access of the product on different Platforms and Mobile devices).
  7. Project Documentation (The quality of the Documentary video, The submission form).

Entries will be treated as strictly confidential. Only details of the award winners and selected commended or nominated entries in each category will be published prior to the presentation.


The decision of the judges is final. No correspondence will be entered into. The nominees will be notified on Sunday 14th November 2012. General Enquiries

Important dates

  • Oct 8th 2012 : Announce competition during MOMO Egypt and open registration. Developers start submitting their apps on an online platform.
  • Oct 30th 2012 Midday: Registration closed. An online Jury starts judging according to Phase 1 judging criteria.
  • Nov. 3rd 2012: An online jury selects 15 apps to present in-front of a judging panel. The selected apps are notified to prepare their presentations.
  • Nov.8th 2012: The selected 15 apps present infront of a panel of judges and answer questions (10- 20 min each). One winner is selected from each category to be nominated at the Mobile Global Awards.
  • Nov. 30th 2012: Dead line for application for the Mobile Global Awards.


  • Top Ten Winners will be nominated for the GlobalMobileAward competition which will be held during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain where they will have the chance to be exhibitors or participants in the congress . .
